Chief Executive Officer of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia, Liesel Wett, has announced her resignation to take up a new and challenging position in another area of the health sector.

Announcing the move, National President of the PSA Grant Kardachi said Ms Wett had led the PSA through a period of great growth and consolidation during which the organisation had become recognised as a significant voice in pharmacy.

“One result of this is that PSA is now often consulted on many issues by much of the media, government and stakeholders,” Mr Kardachi said.

“Over the past three and a half years under Ms Wett’s stewardship, PSA’s membership base has grown from 11,000 to more than 18,000 members.

“Another significant achievement under Ms Wett’s leadership has been securing the final step in the true unification of PSA by bringing WA members into our organisation.”

Mr Kardachi said the PSA Board was in the final stages of short-listing suitable candidates for the position of PSA CEO.

Ms Wett said she had been at the helm of PSA during a period of evolutionary change for the profession.

“To meet this change head on, and to help build a viable future for pharmacists, has seen PSA expand many of its advocacy operations and boost professional development opportunities for our members,” Ms Wett said.

“In addition we at PSA have been untiring in our commitment to the development of a greater range of remunerated professional services being provided by pharmacists.

“My leadership of PSA has been both rewarding and challenging and watching how membership has grown and how the role of pharmacists as clinicians has become more broadly recognised have been very satisfying.

“I have greatly enjoyed my time at PSA and thank the board, the membership and the staff for all the support they have shown me.”

Ms Wett will finish as CEO at PSA on Friday, 11 April 2014 and then take up the position of CEO of Pathology Australia.
