Safety in Thailand

FIP is pleased to inform you that the 60-day state of emergency imposed on Bangkok and other areas of Thailand in January was lifted last week.

Although over the course of the political protests in the kingdom it was business as usual in all hotels and shops, this announcement by the Thai Cabinet on 18 March should reassure those who might have had reservations about visiting the country.

“While the state of emergency caused little inconvenience to travellers to Thailand, its lifting is a sign that things are fast returning to normal in Bangkok and visitors can look forward to travelling around the Thai capital with ease, as well as to the provinces,” said governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand Thawatchai Arunyik.

“Now nothing should stand in the way of registering for the FIP congress,” says FIP’s CEO and General Secretary Dr. Luc Besançon who actually visited the city of Bangkok at the height of the protests to find that the protests were local and took place only in certain areas, that have now all been cleared out.

At its last meeting, the FIP Bureau reviewed extensively the current situation in Bangkok and concluded that there were no safety concerns for the FIP Congress and unanimously confirmed that the FIP Congress will be held in Bangkok, as planned.
