Cross-Party Support for the Profession

BOTH SIDES of politics have stated their support for an expanded role for pharmacists in the final stages of the election campaign.

The major political leaders have sent letters to Pharmacy Guild of Australia members supporting the maintenance of the community pharmacy model, the Guild-Government agreements, pharmacist ownership, location rules, and the ministerial determination preventing pharmacies within supermarkets.

In Labor’s letter, Prime Minister Julia Gillard and her health minister, Nicola Roxon, said many of the programs funded under the fifth agreement would help pharmacists expand their role.
