Japanese Pharmacists Aid in Relief Efforts

After the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan last week, the Japanese Pharmaceutical Association (JPA) is stepping up and ensuring pharmacists are involved in relief and aid efforts to get the country back on its feet.

The JPA has set up a taskforce to collaborate with other relief efforts in this situation and has developed a manual for pharmacists in disaster situations. The manual can be downloaded here, as well as a presentation on how to implement these recommendations (view here).

To accompany these initiatives a branch of JPA established a discussion forum, urging all to share information and to collect material needs in the disaster area.

The FIP statement on catastrophic events supports these and other initiatives of pharmacists to take professionally appropriate action in times of disaster to ensure efficient ongoing relief efforts.

FIP hopes that the admirable relief efforts currently taking place result in a recovery that is as expedient and safe as can be expected, and on behalf of the FIP global community of your peers, colleagues and friends, we remain with constant concern.
