Mental Health In The Spotlight at PAC11

26 September 2011

Leading Australian mental health advocate and former Australian of the Year, Professor Patrick McGorry AO, will be a highlight speaker at this year’s Pharmacy Australia Congress (PAC11) in Melbourne.

The treatment and management of people with mental health conditions has assumed greater significance in Australia following the Federal Government Budget allocation of $2.2 billion over five years to improve mental health services, with a greater focus on prevention and early intervention as well as designing better integrated systems.

Professor McGorry’s address, Developing the skills and systems for better mental health care, will be a feature of the PAC11 presentations being held on Saturday 8 October.

Professor McGorry, is Executive Director of Orygen Youth Health (OYH), a world-renowned youth mental health organisation, as well as being Professor of Youth Mental Health at the University of Melbourne and founding member of the National Youth Mental Health Foundation (headspace) board.

OYH comprises Australia’s largest youth mental health research centre and a clinical service targeting the needs of young people with emerging serious mental illness, including first-episode psychosis.
