Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore (PSS)

Lastly, PSS Council would like express our appreciation to WPPF for inviting our

members and Singapore pharmacists to apply for the WPPF/FIP Overseas Travel

Scholarships. We fielded 2 applications and hoped that other countries would have

similarly responded and applied enthusiastically.

However, we learned with profound regrets that the scholarships weren’t awarded

on the basis of merits; instead they were decided with the need to support specific

countries for their applicants to travel and attend the FIP Congress in Beijing.

We are not disappointed for not being awarded the scholarship, but we are deeply

concerned that the prestige and competitive spirit of a “scholarships” have been

redefined, and that could seriously undermine the competitiveness and spirit of

transparency, thereby eroding the leadership and developmental quality of our

profession.

Our sincere wish is such awards, if need to be continued the way it was, must be

renamed to a travel bursaries or some other name that better befits their intention
